| | Weights and Measures (Temporary Amending) Regulations, 1931, made by the Minister for Industry and Commerce on the Nineteenth day of February, 1931, pursuant to the Weights and Measures Acts, 1878 to 1928.

| | WHEREAS it appears expedient to the Minister for Industry and Commerce to modify for a limited period the requirements, under Regulation 40 of the Weights and Measures (General) Regulations, 1928, for the stamping of bottles now in the stocks of licensed traders and wholesale bottling firms :

| | NOW, THEREFORE, the Minister for Industry and Commerce, pursuant to the powers conferred on him by the Weights and Measures Acts, 1878 to 1928, and all other powers in that behalf enabling him hereby makes the following Regulations :—

| | 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Weights and Measures (Temporary Amending) Regulations, 1931.
|
| | 2. These Regulations shall come into force on the date of the making thereof.
|
| | 3. In the case of any bottle to which Regulation 40 of the Weights and Measures (General) Regulations, 1928, applies, which was in use for trade by a licensed trader or a wholesale bottling firm prior to the 1st day of December, 1928, and has remained until the date of these Regulations in the stock of the trader or bottling firm so using it before the said date and is presented for verification and stamping not later than the 1st day of June, 1931, or such later date not being later than the 31st day of December, 1931, as the Minister for Industry and Commerce may direct, the said Regulation 40 shall be deemed to be amended by the substitution in lieu of the requirements in paragraphs (a) to (g) inclusive now contained therein of the following requirements, that is to say :—

| | (a) The capacity shall be ascertained to be one pint, or one-half pint or one-third pint, subject to an allowance for error, in the case of a pint or one half-pint bottle, of not more than 11/3 drachms in deficiency nor more than 1½ ounces in excess, and in the case of a one-third pint bottle, of not more than 1 drachm in deficiency nor more than ¾ ounce in excess ;

| | (b) The capacity shall be deemed to be defined by an inaginary line drawn at 1¾ inches from the brim of the bottle.
|
| | (c) The bottle can be completely emptied when tilted to an angle of 130 degrees from the vertical.
|
| | (d) If the denomination of a bottle be abbreviated it shall be indicated by the abbreviated form of " Pt.", " ½ Pt.", or " 1/3 Pt.", respectively; provided that the largest letter of the denomination shall not exceed one inch in depth,

| | and the said Regulation 40 shall be construed and have effect accordingly.
