WHALE FISHERIES ACT, 1937. FISHERIES ACTS, 1842 TO 1935. BY-LAW No. W.F. 2.

WHALING : OPERATIONS.

I, Séamas Ó Riain, Minister for Agriculture, by virtue and in exercise of the powers vested in me by the Whale Fisheries Act, 1937 (No. 4 of 1937), and of every other power enabling me in this behalf, do make and ordain the following By-Law :—

(1). In addition to the requirements of section 16, sub-section (1) of the Whale Fisheries Act, 1937 , the oil shall be extracted by boiling or otherwise from all the meal of whales treated in any factory ship licensed under the said Act (other than the meat of Sperm whales) and from the bones ; but this shall not apply to the internal organs, whalebone or flippers, or to any part of a whale intended for human food or for feeding animals.

(2) There shall not at any time be killed or taken for delivery to any factory ship a greater number of whales than can be treated in accordance with the Whale Fisheries Act, 1937 , and Orders and By-Laws made thereunder in the said factory ship within a period of thirty-six hours from the time of the killing of each whale.

(3). The Interpretation Act, 1923 (No. 46 of 1923), applies to the interpretation of this By-Law in like manner as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of the Oireachtas.

(4). This By-Law may be cited for all purposes as the Whale Fisheries By-Law No. W.F. 2, 1937.

(5). This By-Law shall come into force on the first day of August, 1937.
