CUSTOMS DUTIES (MISCELLANEOUS SUSPENSIONS) ORDER, 1947.

CUSTOMS DUTIES (MISCELLANEOUS SUSPENSIONS) ORDER, 1947.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by the Supplies and Services (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1946 (No. 22 of 1946), hereby order as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Customs Duties (Miscellaneous Suspensions) Order, 1947.

2. In this Order, the expression " the appointed period " means the period beginning on the 1st day of April, 1947, and ending on the 30th day of September, 1947.

3. (1) The duty of customs imposed on sugar confectionery by section 12 of the Finance (Customs Duties) (No. 2) Act, 1932 , as amended by subsequent enactments, except in so far as it relates to biscuits sweetened with sugar or other sweetening matter and not containing cocoa, is hereby suspended during the appointed period.

(2) The duty of customs imposed on certain packages by section 22 of the Finance Act, 1932 (No. 20 of 1932), as amended by subsequent enactments, is hereby suspended to the following extent, that is to say, the said section 22 shall not, during the appointed period, apply to the substances the duty of customs on which is suspended by paragraph (1) of this Article.

4. The duty of customs on articles to which section 9 of the Finance Act, 1934 (No. 31 of 1934), as amended by section 22 of the Finance Act, 1935 (No. 28 of 1935), and the Sixth Schedule to the Act, and by subsequent enactments, applies is hereby suspended during the appointed period.

5. The duty of customs on articles to which section 7 of the Finance Act, 1937 (No. 18 of 1937), and the Third Schedule to that Act, as amended by subsequent enactments, apply is hereby suspended during the appointed period, except in so far as the said duty relates to—

(a) hats and caps which, in the opinion of the Revenue Commissioners, are made wholly or mainly of felt, and are completely or partially manufactured, and

(b) articles which, in the opinion of the Revenue Commissioners, are made wholly or mainly of fur or are component parts or accessories, made wholly or mainly of fur, of such articles.
