EMERGENCY IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (No. 368) (RELIGIOUS BOOKS) ORDER, 1956.

EMERGENCY IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (No. 368) (RELIGIOUS BOOKS) ORDER, 1956.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 1 of the Emergency Imposition of Duties Act, 1932 (No. 16 of 1932), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, hereby order as follows :--

1. This Order may be cited as the Emergency Imposition of Duties (No. 368) (Religious Books) Order, 1956.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. Section 10 of and reference number 25 in the First Schedule to the Finance Act, 1935 (No. 28 of 1935), as amended by section II of and reference number 14 in Part VIII of the Fourth Schedule to the Finance Act, 1937 (No. 18 of 1937), shall, as respects articles imported on or after the 16th day of March, 1956, have effect as if the following were substituted for the description in the second column of the said First Schedule at the said reference number 25 :--

" (a) Prayer-books, missals, breviaries and hymnals ;

(b) books consisting of the Gospel of the New Testament according to one of the Evangelists ;

(c) printed sheets for binding into any of such books as are described in either of the foregoing paragraphs."
