ROAD VEHICLES (REGISTRATION AND LICENSING) (AMENDMENT) (No. 2) REGULATIONS, 1960. |

The Minister for Local Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 12 of the Roads Act, 1920, section 3 of the Finance (Excise Duties) (Vehicles) Act, 1952 (No. 24 of 1952) and section 1 of the said Act, as amended by section 20 of the Finance Act, 1958 (No. 25 of 1958) and by section 21 of the Finance Act, 1960 (No. 19 of 1960), hereby makes the following Regulations:-- |

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations, 1960. |

(2) These Regulations and the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 1958 ( S.I. No. 13 of 1958 ), the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) (Amendment) Regulations, 1958, (No. 198 of 1958), the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) (Amendment) Regulations. 1959 (No, 217 of 1959) and the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) (Amendment) Regulations, 1960 (No. 84 of 1960) shall be construed as one and may be cited together as the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 1958 to 1960. |

(3) Article 2 of these Regulations shall be deemed to have come into operation on the 1st day of July, 1960. |

2. For the purposes of paragraph 1 of Part I of the Schedule to the Finance (Excise Duties) (Vehicles) Act, 1952 , a tricycle shall include a vehicle constructed or adapted for use with either three or four wheels the two front wheels or the two rear wheels of which are, when the four wheels are in contact with the ground, less than twelve inches apart measured between the nearest points of contact of the wheels with the ground. |

3. The Fourth Schedule to the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 1958, is hereby amended by the substitution of "1st April" for "25th March". |
||
4. Article 2 (1) of the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) (Amendment) Regulations, 1958, is hereby amended by the deletion of the definition of "month". |

EXPLANATORY NOTE. |
||
Article 2 of these Regulations enables a vehicle of the type defined therein to be taxed as a "tricycle" under the Finance (Excise Duties) (Vehicles) Act, 1952 , i.e., at the annual rate of £8, provided it does not exceed 8 cwt. in weight unladen. |
||
Articles 3 and 4 make minor amendments of the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 1958 ( S.I. No. 13 of 1958 ), and the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) (Amendment) Regulations, 1958 (S.I., No. 198 of 1958) consequential on the change, made by section 21 of the Finance Act, 1960 , of the date of commencement of the quarterly licensing period from 25th March to 1st April. |
