S.I. No. 104/1961:

OIL POLLUTION OF THE SEA ACT, 1956 (EXTENSION OF PROHIBITED ZONES) ORDER, 1961.

OIL POLLUTION OF THE SEA ACT, 1956 (EXTENSION OF PROHIBITED ZONES) ORDER, 1961.

WHEREAS so much of the Atlantic Ocean as lies within 50 miles from the coast of Canada is included in the prohibited zones for tankers and ships other than tankers referred to in Annex A to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution of the Sea by Oil, 1954, and in the prohibited zones for tankers and ships other than tankers for the purposes of the Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 (No. 25 of 1956).

AND WHEREAS, pursuant to the said Annex, the Government of Canada proposed, by declaration made on the 25th day of August, 1960, the extension of the prohibited zones referred to in the said Annex so as to include in the zones so much of the Atlantic Ocean as lies within one hundred miles from the coast of Canada,

AND WHEREAS, pursuant to the said Annex, the proposed extension came into force six months after the making of the declaration aforesaid,

NOW, I, ERSKINE H. CHILDERS, Minister for Transport and Power, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 9 of the Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 (No. 25 of 1956), and the Transport, Fuel and Power (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1959 ( S.I. No. 125 of 1959 ), hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 (Extension of Prohibited Zones) Order, 1961.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 15th day of June, 1961.

3. The prohibited zones for tankers and ships other than tankers for the purposes of the Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 (No. 25 of 1956), are hereby extended so as to include so much of the Atlantic Ocean as lies within 100 miles from the coast of Canada.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order declares that the prohibited zones for the discharge of oil or oily mixtures by tankers and ships other than tankers have, for the purposes of the Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 , been extended so as to include so much of the Atlantic Ocean as lies within 100 miles from the coast of Canada.
