DEPARTMENT OF POSTS AND TELEGRAPHS INLAND POST AMENDMENT (No. 12) WARRANT, 1963.

DEPARTMENT OF POSTS AND TELEGRAPHS INLAND POST AMENDMENT (No. 12) WARRANT, 1963.

I, SÉAMAS Ó RIAIN, Minister for Finance, on the representation of the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs as testified by his official seal affixed hereto, and in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 2, 12 and 82 of the Post Office Act, 1908, hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This Warrant may be cited as the Inland Post Amendment (No. 12) Warrant, 1963.

(2) This Warrant shall come into operation on the twenty-sixth day of August, 1963.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Warrant.

3. In this Warrant "the Principal Warrant" means the Inland Post Warrant, 1939 (S. R. & O., No. 202 of 1939).

4. This Warrant shall be construed as one with the Principal Warrant.

5. The First Schedule to the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution for the entry numbered 7 therein (inserted by the Inland Post Amendment (No. 10) Warrant, 1960 ( S.I. No. 48 of 1960 ) ) of the entry in the Schedule hereto.

6. When a parcel exceeds such weight as may be prescribed, the Minister may, in such cases as he thinks fit, instead of delivering the parcel, give notice to the addressee of its arrival and the parcel may in such case be delivered to the addressee at the Post Office on his application therefor upon payment of the charges (if any) due thereon.

3s. 0d. Minimum dimensions:

exceeding 15 1b. but not exceeding 17 lb.

4s. 3d. As for letters.

exceeding 17 lb. but not exceeding 20 lb.

4s. 9d.

exceeding 20 lb. but not exceeding 22 lb 

5s. 2d.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Warrant increases the maximum weight limit for parcels accepted for delivery in Ireland, Great Britain, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man from 15 lb. to 22 lb. and fixes the rates of postage for parcels between these weights. (The charges for parcels up to 15 lb. remain unchanged).

The Warrant comes into effect on the 26th August, 1963.
