S.I. No. 189/1968:

MERCANTILE MARINE ACT, 1955 (RECIPROCATING STATES) (NEW ZEALAND AND PAKISTAN) ORDER, 1968.

MERCANTILE MARINE ACT, 1955 (RECIPROCATING STATES) (NEW ZEALAND AND PAKISTAN) ORDER, 1968.

The Government, being satisfied that it is in the national interest to declare New Zealand and Pakistan to be reciprocating states and that Irish citizens and Irish bodies corporate are entitled, under the laws of each of those states respectively, to own a ship or a share in a ship having the nationality of that state, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 19 of the Mercantile Marine Act, 1955 (No. 29 of 1955), hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Mercantile Marine Act, 1955 (Reciprocating States) (New Zealand and Pakistan) Order, 1968.

2. New Zealand and Pakistan are hereby declared to be reciprocating states for the purposes of the Mercantile Marine Act, 1955 (No. 29 of 1955).

3. The Mercantile Marine Act, 1955 (Reciprocating States) (Union of South Africa, New Zealand and Pakistan) Order, 1958 ( S.I. No. 184 of 1958 ), is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order terminates the arrangement which was made with South Africa, on a reciprocal basis, in 1958, entitling South African citizens and bodies corporate to register ships in Ireland.
