FOOD HYGIENE REGULATIONS, 1950 (SHELLFISH CONTROLLED AREA) ORDER, 1971.

FOOD HYGIENE REGULATIONS, 1950 (SHELLFISH CONTROLLED AREA) ORDER, 1971.

The Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Article 55 of the Food Hygiene Regulations, 1950 ( S.I. No. 205 of 1950 ) hereby orders as follows:--

1. This Order may be cited as the Food Hygiene Regulations, 1950 (Shellfish Controlled Area) Order, 1971.

2. This Order shall come into operation on 1st day of March, 1971.

3. The area specified in the Schedule hereto is hereby declared to be a controlled area for the purposes of Part VI of the Food Hygiene Regulations, 1950.

SCHEDULE

Controlled Area

The portion of the sea including inlets and harbours, the strands and tidal waters of rivers forming part of the district of the Cork Health Authority which lies north of a line drawn from Power Head in the County of Cork to Cork Head in the County of Cork.

February, One Thousand Nine Hundred and Seventy-one.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of this order is to declare the area of Cork harbour north of a line from Power Head to Cork Head to be a controlled area for the purposes of Part VI of the Food Hygiene Regulations, 1950. The sale, etc., of shellfish from this area is thereby prohibited unless treated in a manner approved by the local Chief Medical Officer. The local Chief Medical Officer is also empowered to approve, or withdraw approval, of sites for the relaying of shellfish and any person selling, etc. shellfish is required to keep appropriate records.
