S.I. No. 251/1972:

FIREARMS (DANGEROUS WEAPONS) ORDER, 1972

FIREARMS (DANGEROUS WEAPONS) ORDER, 1972

I, DESMOND O'MALLEY, Minister for Justice, in exercise of the power conferred on me by subsection (2B) (inserted by the Firearms Act, 1971 (No. 13 of 1971)) of section 2 of the Firearms Act, 1925 (No. 17 of 1925), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Firearms (Dangerous Weapons) Order, 1972.

2. Firearms of the following kinds, namely, pistols and revolvers, are hereby declared to be especially dangerous.

GIVEN under my Official Seal, this 6th day of October, 1972.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of this Order is that a person found guilty of the unlawful possession, use or carriage of a pistol or revolver, irrespective of its calibre, will be liable to the penalties provided for in the Firearms Acts in respect of firearms other than sporting firearms.
