I, CONOR CRUISE O'BRIEN, Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 2 , 3 and 6 of the Post office (Amendment) Act, 1969 (No. 18 of 1969), and with the consent of the Minister for Finance, hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This Warrant may be cited as the Inland Post Amendment (No. 20) Warrant, 1975.

(2) This Warrant shall come into operation on the 1st day of January, 1976.

2. In this Warrant:--

"the Principal Warrant" means the Inland Post Warrant, 1939 (S.R. & O., No. 202 of 1939);

"the Warrant of 1974" means the Inland Post Amendment (No. 19) Warrant, 1974 ( S.I. No. 280 of 1974 ).

3. Regulations 23 (2) of the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution for "twenty-five new pence" (inserted by Regulation 3 of the Warrant of 1974) of "thirty new pence".

4. The First Schedule to the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution for the entries therein (inserted by Regulation 5 of the Warrant of 1974) of the entries in the First Schedule to this Warrant.

5. The Fourth Schedule to the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution for the entries therein (inserted by Regulation 8 of the Warrant of 1974) of the entries in the Second Schedule to this Warrant.

6. The Fifth Schedule to the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution for the entries therein (inserted by Regulation 9 of the Warrant of 1974) of the entries in the Third Schedule to this Warrant.

7. Regulation 7 of the Inland Post Amendment (No. 4) Warrant, 1953 ( S.I. No. 279 of 1953 ), as amended by Regulation 11 of the Warrant of 1974, is hereby amended by the substitution for "twenty new pence" of "twenty-five new pence".

1. Letter

2 oz. (or less) 9p Maximum dimensions: -- A letter upon which no part, or a part only, of the postage payable thereon is prepaid shall be forwarded charged with double the amount of the deficient postage.

For every additional 2 oz. or part thereof 4p Length, 2 ft., width, 1 ft. 6 ins., depth, 1 ft. 6 ins. In roll form, length and twice diameter, 3 ft. 3 ins., greatest dimension, 2 ft. 8 ins.

Minimum dimensions:

Length, 4 ins., width 2¾ ins. In roll form, length and twice diameter, 6¾ ins., greatest dimension, not less than 4 ins.

The minimum dimensions do not apply in relation to letters which bear a rectangular address label of cardboard or strong paper of which the dimensions are not less than 4 ins. by 2¾ ins.

2. Postcard

Single 7p Maximum dimensions: -- A postcard upon which no part, or a part only, of the postage payable thereon is prepaid shall be forwarded charged with double the amount of the deficient postage.

Length, 57/8 ins., width, 41/8 ins.

Reply 14p Minimum dimensions:

Length, 4 ins., width, 2¾ ins.

3. Printed Packet

4 oz. (or less) 7p As for letters 2 lb. A printed packet upon which no part, or a part only, of the postage payable thereon is repaid shall be forwarded charged with double the amount of the deficient postage.

4. Newspaper (Registered at the General Post Office

Not exceeding 6 oz. (per copy) 5p As for letters 2 lb. (1) The rates of postage specified in Col. 2 shall be charged and paid on every newspaper whether posted singly or in a packet of two or more.

For every additional 6 oz. or fractional part thereof (per copy) 2p (2) Any newspaper not registered will, if posted or tendered for transmission by post, be charged with postage as a printed packet, letter or parcel of the same weight, whichever treatment involves the lowest charge (see Regulation 16).

(3) Any newspaper upon which no part, or a part only, of the postage payable thereon is prepaid shall be forwarded charged with double the amount of the deficient postage.

5. Sample Packet

4 oz. (or less) 7p Maximum dimensions: 8 oz. A sample packet upon which no part, or a part only, of the postage is prepaid shall be forwarded charged with double the amount of the deficient postage.

For every additional 2 oz. or part thereof 3p Length, 12 ins., width, 8 ins., depth, 4 ins.

1. Postal Packet handed for registration to an officer of the Post Office authorised to receive the same, though not on duty at a Post Office or handed in at a Post Office for registration. 24p Such extra sum not exceeding 2½p as may be prescribed. (Applicable only to packets intended to be forwarded by the next despatch but registered after the expiration of the time appointed for the registration of packets (without extra fee) and within such further time as the Minister may from time to time appoint with reference to any particular Post Office).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Warrant applies to the Inland Post service and comes into operation on the 1st January, 1976. It authorises increases in the letter, postcard, printed packet, sample packet and parcel post rates of postage and in the fees charged for registration, customs clearance and cash-on-delivery services.
