I DESMOND O'MALLEY, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and the Industry, Commerce and Energy (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1980 ( S.I. No. 10 of 1980 ), and for the purpose of giving effect to Community Directives 79/490/EEC1, 79/795/EEC2, 79/489/EEC3, 79/488/EEC4, 80/233/EEC5, and 78/932/EEC6, in so far as those Directives apply to the type approval of motor vehicles, trailers and components, hereby make the following Regulations:--

1. These Regulations maybe cited as the European Communities (Motor Vehicles Type Approval) Regulations, 1980, and shall come into operation on the 25th day of June, 1980.

2. The European Communities (Motor Vehicles Type Approval) Regulations, 1978 ( S.I. No. 305 of 1978 ), are hereby amended by the substitution of the following Schedule for Schedule 1:

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend the European Communities (Motor Vehicles Type Approval) Regulations, 1978, so as to implement those provisions of certain EEC Directives relating to type approval of motor vehicles, their trailers and components which have since been adopted.
