SOCIAL WELFARE (SUPPLEMENTARY WELFARE ALLOWANCES) REGULATIONS, 1984.

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 3 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1981 (No. 1 of 1981) and by subsection (9) of section 218 of that Act (inserted by section 15 of the Social Welfare Act, 1983 (No. 6 of 1983)) after consultation with the Minister for the Environment and with the consent of the Minister for Finance hereby makes the following Regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Regulations, 1984.

(2) These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Regulations, 1977 and 1983, may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Regulations, 1977 to 1984.

2. The total amount to be paid by all local authorities under subsection (1) of section 218 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1981 in respect of the year ending on 31st December, 1984 shall be £14,700,000.

3. The amounts payable under subsection (3) of section 218 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1981 in respect of the year ended on 31st December, 1984 by each local authority mentioned in column (1) of the Table to this article shall not exceed the amounts set out in column (2) of the Table opposite such mention in column (1).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations prescribe the total amounts to be paid by all local authorities to Health Boards in respect of Health Board expenditure on supplementary welfare allowances for the year 1984. The amount prescribed in respect of 1984 represents an increase of 5.53% on the amount of £13,929,300 prescribed for 1983.

They also prescribe the maximum amounts payable by each local authority for the year 1984 in respect of the Health Board's administration costs of the supplementary welfare allowances scheme.
