DUBLIN COUNTY BOROUGH (ELECTORAL AREAS) ORDER, 1985.

DUBLIN COUNTY BOROUGH (ELECTORAL AREAS) ORDER, 1985.

The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers vested in him by section 3 of the Local Government (Dublin) Act, 1945 (no. 8 of 1945), as amended by section 1 of the local Government (Dublin) Act, 1967 (no. 4 of 1967), hereby orders as follows:

1. This order may be cited as the Dublin County Borough (Electoral Areas) Order, 1985.

2. The Dublin County Borough (Electoral Areas) Order, 1979 ( S.I. No. 41 of 1979 ), is hereby revoked.

3. (1) The County Borough of Dublin shall be divided into the electoral areas set out in the first column of the Schedule to this Order.

(2) Each such electoral area shall consist of the area described in the second column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such electoral area.

(3) The number of members of the city council to be elected for each such electoral area shall be the number set out in the third column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such electoral area.

(4) The number of the said members to be elected for each such electoral area who are to be aldermen shall be the number set out in the fourth column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such electoral area.

4. Every reference in the Schedule to this Order to:

(1) The County Borough shall be construed as a reference to the County Borough of Dublin as existing at the date of this order.

(2) A district electoral division shall be construed as a reference to such district electoral division as described in the Dublin County (District Electoral Divisions) Regulations, 1971 (S.I. number 17 of 1971).

(3) A ward shall be construed as a reference to such ward as described in the County Borough of Dublin (Wards) Regulations, 1970 (S.I. number 269 of 1970).

5. A reference in the Schedule to this Order to a line drwn along any road, avenue, river, street or lane shall be construed as a reference to an imaginary line drawn along the centre of such road, avenue, river, street or lane.

6. A reference in the Schedule to this order to the point at which any road, avenue, river, street, lane or imaginary projection intersects or joins any other road, avenue, river, street, lane or imaginary projection shall be construed as a reference to the point at which an imaginary line drawn along the centre of the one, or in the case of an imaginary projection, along the one, would be intersected or joined by an imaginary line drawn along the centre of the other, or in the case of an imaginary projection, along the other.

7. A reference in the Schedule to this Order to the point at which any road, avenue, street, lane, river or imaginary projection intersects or joins a boundary shall be construed as a reference to the point at which an imaginary line drawn along the centre of such road, avenue, street, lane, river, or in the case of an imaginary projection, along the projection, would intersect or join such boundary.

8. A reference in the Schedule to this Order to a line drawn along a road which consists of a dual carriageway shall be construed as a reference to an imaginary line drawn along the centre of the central median of such dual carriageway.

Ballyfermot A, Ballyfermot B, Ballyfermot C. Ballyfermot D, Ballyfermot E, Ballyfermot F, Ballyfermot G, Ballyfermot H, Kilmainham A. Kilmainham B and Kilmainham C;
that part of the ward of Phoenix Park situated south and west of a line drawn as follows:
commencing at the junction of the County Borough boundary and the southern boundary of the phoenix park nearest Knockmaroon Gate, thence initially in a south-easterly direction and proceeding along the said boundary to its intersection by the imaginary northerly projection of south Circular Road. thence in a southerly direction along the said imaginary projection, and South. Circular Road to its intersection by the southern boundary of the ward; and
that part of the district electoral division of Palmerstown Number one situated within the County Borough.
Cabra

The wards of:

Cabra East A, Cabra East B, Cabra East C, Cabra West A, Cabra West B, Cabra West C, Cabra West D and Cabra West E;

that part of the ward of Phoenix Park situated north of a line drawn as follows:

commencing at the junction of the boundary of the phoenix Park with the County Borough boundary nearest Knockmaroon Gate, thence initially in a south-easterly direction and proceeding along the boundary of the Phoenix park to its intersection by main Road. Phoenix park, at Park gate Street, thence in a south-easterly direction along main Road to its junction with parkgate Street; thence in an easterly direction along parkgate Street to its junction with the boundary of the ward and that part of the district electoral division of Castleknock situated within the County Borough.

Clontarf

The wards of:

Clontarf East B, Clontarf East C, Clontarf East D, Clontarf East E, Clontarf West A, Clontarf West B, Clontarf West C, Clontarf WEst D, Clontarf West E, Drumcondra North A and Drumcondra South A:

that part of the ward of Artane E, not contained in the electoral area of Artane;
that part of the ward of Clontarf East A situated south of a line drawn as follows:
commencing at the intersection of the western boundary of the ward by Howth Road; thence in a north-easterly direction along Howth Road to its junction with All Saints Road, thence initially in a south-easterly direction and proceeding along All Saints Road to its junction with Watermill Road;
that part of the ward of Drumcondra North B situated east of a line drawn along the new Swords Road; and
that part of the ward of Drumcondra South B situated west of a line drawn as follows:-
commencing at the intersection of Clonliffe Road by the imaginary southerly projection of the eastern boundary of Holy Cross College, thence initially in a northerly direction and proceeding along the said imaginary projection and the

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of this Order is to divide Dublin County Borough into twelve electoral areas and to fix the number of members to be elected for each electoral area and the number of those members who are to be aldermen.
