S.I. No. 264/1988 -- Winter Time Order, 1988. 1988 264

S.I. No. 264/1988:

WINTER TIME ORDER, 1988.

WINTER TIME ORDER, 1988.

I, GERARD COLLINS, Minister for Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 of the Standard Time (Amendment) Act, 1971 (No. 17 of 1971), hereby make the following Order:

1. This Order may be cited as the Winter Time Order, 1988.

2. For the year 1989--

(a) The period of winter time which, apart from this Article, would end at two o'clock Greenwich mean time in the morning of the 19th day of March, 1989, is hereby varied so as to end at one o'clock Greenwich mean time in the morning of the 26th day of March, 1989;

(b) the period of winter time which, apart from this Article, would begin at two o'clock Greenwich mean time in the morning of the 29th day of October, 1989, is hereby varied so as to begin at one o'clock Greenwich mean time in the morning of the 29th day of October, 1989.

GIVEN under my Official Seal, this 12th day of October, 1988.

GERARD COLLINS,

Minister for Justice.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order varies the periods of winter time, and consequently summer time, for the year 1989. The effect of the Order will be that standard (summer) time will begin one week later in 1989 than under present law. A minor effect of the Order will be that the time of change from winter time to summer time and vice versa will be 1 a.m. in the morning (GMT) rather than 2 a.m. This Order gives effect to an EEC Directive [88/14/EEC of 22 December, 1987] concerning summer time in EC Member States.

In accordance with subsection (3) of section 1 of the Standard Time (Amendment) Act, 1971 (No. 17 of 1971), the above Order has been approved by resolution of each House of the Oireachtas.
