I, RAY BURKE, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to the Community Directives specified in Schedule I to the European Communities (Motor Vehicles Type Approval) Regulations, 1978 ( S.I. No. 305 of 1978 ) (inserted by the following Regulations), in so far as those Directives apply to the type approval of motor vehicles, trailers and components, hereby make the following Regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Motor Vehicles Type Approval) Regulations, 1989, and shall come into operation on the 1st day of March, 1989.
|
|
|
2. The European Communities (Motor Vehicles Type Approval) Regulations, 1978 ( S.I. No. 305 of 1978 ), are hereby amended by the substitution of the following Schedule for Schedule I (inserted by the European Communities (Motor Vehicles Type Approval) Regulations, 1988 ( S.I. No. 290 of 1988 )) thereto:

EXPLANATORY NOTE.
|
|
|
These Regulations amend the European Communities (Motor Vehicles Type Approval) Regulations, 1988 ( S.I. No. 290 of 1988 ) so as to implement those provisions of certain EEC Directives relating to type-approval of motor vehicles, their trailers and their components which now require to be implemented in national law, as follows:
|
|
|
-- 87/358/EEC of 25 June 1987 and 87/403/EEC of 25 June 1987 -- Type approval of motor vehicles and their trailers.
|
|
|
-- 88/76/EEC of 3 December 1987 and 88/436/EEC of 16 June 1988 -- Air pollution by gases from vehicles with positive ignition engines.
