MONEY ORDER AMENDMENT (NO. 32) SCHEME 1991.

MONEY ORDER AMENDMENT (NO. 32) SCHEME 1991.

AN POST, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Section 70 of the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983 (No. 24 of 1983), and with the concurrence of the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications, hereby makes the following Scheme:

1. This Scheme may be cited as the Money Order Amendment (No. 32) Scheme, 1991.

2. This Scheme shall come into operation on the 2nd day of April, 1991.

3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Scheme.

4. In this Scheme:--

"the Principal Regulations" means the Post Office (Money Order) Regulations, 1903;

"the Regulations of 1908" means the Money Order Amendment (No. 2) Regulations 1908. (S.I. No. 118 of 1908);

"the Regulations of 1960" means the Money Order Amendment (No. 16) Regulations, 1960 ( S.I. No. 49 of 1960 );

"the Regulations of 1986" means the Money Order Amendment (No. 29) Regulations, 1986 ( S.I. No. 95 of 1986 );

"the Regulations of 1989" means the Money Order Amendment (No. 30) Regulations, 1989 ( S.I. No. 133 of 1989 ).

5. Regulation 6 of the Regulations of 1908 is hereby amended by the substitution of "6" for "12", in order to reduce the validity period of Money Orders from twelve months to six months.

6. Regulation 18 (1) of the Principal Regulations is hereby amended by the substitution of the following tables for Table

A (inserted by Regulation 5 of the Regulations of 1989) and Tables B and C (inserted by Regulations 5 of the Regulations of 1986) which set out the poundage payable in respect of Money Orders:

For an amount exceeding £100 but not exceeding £500. 2.50

In respect of Foreign Money Orders:
For an amount not exceeding £50. 2.50
For an amount exceeding £50 but not exceeding £250. 3.00
C
In respect of supplementary services:
For correcting or altering the name of the remitter or payee. 2.00
For stopping payment. 2.00
For the issue of a duplicate Money Order (including stopping payment of the original order). 2.00
For the renewal/repayment of a lost/void Money Order (including stopping payment of the original order). 2.00
For the confirmation of payment of an Inland and/or Foreign Money Order. 1.00

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Scheme, which comes into operation on the 2nd April, 1991, provides for increases in the poundage and other charges to be levied on Money Orders. It also reduces the validity period of Money Orders.
