SOCIAL WELFARE (SOCIAL ASSISTANCE) (AMENDMENT) (No. 2) REGULATIONS, 1994.

SOCIAL WELFARE (SOCIAL ASSISTANCE) (AMENDMENT) (No. 2) REGULATIONS, 1994.

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 4 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 (No. 27 of 1993) and Rule 1 (2) (as amended by section 18 of the Social Welfare Act, 1994 (No. 4 of 1994)) of Part I of the Third Schedule to the said Act, hereby makes the following Regulations:--

Citation and construction.

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Social Assistance) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations, 1994.

(2) These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Social Assistance) Regulations, 1993 and 1994 shall be construed together as one and may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Social Assistance) Regulations, 1993 to 1994.

Earnings Disregard.

2. The Social Welfare (Social Assistance) Regulations, 1993 ( S.I. No. 364 of 1993 ) are hereby amended by the insertion after article 10 of the following article:--

"10A. For the purposes of paragraph (p) of Rule 1 (2) of Part I of the Third Schedule--

( a ) the harvesting of seaweed shall be a prescribed activity, and

( b ) the prescribed income arising from the said activity shall be £1,000 per year.".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations provide that income of up to £1,000 a year derived from the harvesting of seaweed shall be disregarded in the assessment of means for Unemployment Assistance.
