WILDLIFE (WILD MAMMALS) (OPEN SEASONS) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1996.

WILDLIFE (WILD MAMMALS) (OPEN SEASONS) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1996.

I, Michael D. Higgins, Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 8 and 24 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 (No. 39 of 1976), and the Heritage (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1994 ( S.I. No. 443 of 1994 ), hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Wildlife (Wild Mammals) (Open Seasons) (Amendment) Order, 1996.

(2) The Wildlife (Wild Mammals) (Open Seasons) Orders, 1979 to 1986, and this Order may be cited together as the Wildlife (Wild Mammals) (Open Seasons) Orders, 1979 to 1996.

2. In this Order the "Principal Order" means the Wildlife (Wild Mammals) (Open Seasons) Order, 1979 ( S.I. No. 193 of 1979 ).

3. The Schedule to this Order is hereby substituted for the Schedule to the Principal Order.

SCHEDULE

Part I

(1) Species

(2) Period of Days (Open Season)

(3) Manner of Hunting

Fallow Deer:
Males From 1st day of September in any year to 28th day of February in the following year, both dates inclusive.
Shooting with Firearms
Females From 1st day of November in any year to 31st day of January in the following year, both dates inclusive.
Sika Deer:
Males From 1st day of September in any year to 28th day of February in the following year, both dates inclusive.
Females
(Throughout the State exclusive of the Counties of Dublin and of Wicklow) From 1st day of November in any year to 31st day of January in the following year, both dates inclusive. Shooting with Firearms

(The Counties of Dublin and of Wicklow)

From 1st day of November in any year to 28th day of February in the following year, both dates inclusive.

PART II

(1) Species

(2) Period of Days (Open Season)

(3) Manner of Hunting

Red Deer:
Males From 1st day of September in any year to 28th day of February in the following year, both dates inclusive.
Females
(Throughout the State exclusive of the Counties of Dublin and of Wicklow) From 1st day of November in any year to 31st day of January in the following year, both dates inclusive. Shooting with Firearms

(The Counties of Dublin and of Wicklow)

From 1st day of November in any year to 28th day of February in the following year, both dates inclusive.

PART III

(1) Species

(2) Period of Days (Open Season)

(3) Manner of Hunting

Hares: From 26th day of September in any year to 28th day of February in the following year, both dates inclusive. Shooting with firearms. Coursing at regulated coursing matches. Hunting with packs of beagles and harriers.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The effect of this Order is to amend the Open Seasons list of huntable species of wild mammals by extending the hunting season for female deer (Red and Sika species only) from 31st January to 28th February in the Counties of Dublin and of Wicklow only.
