VOCATIONAL EDUCATION COMMITTEES (ALLOWANCES TO MEMBERS) (AMENDMENT) RULES, 1998.

I, MICHEÁL MARTIN, Minister for Education and Science, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 6(4) (as amended by section 5 of the Vocational Education (Amendment) Act, 1950 (No. 33 of 1950), and section 5 of the Vocational Education (Amendment) Act, 1962 (No. 28 of 1962)) of the Vocational Education (Amendment) Act, 1947 (No. 1 of 1947) (adapted by the Education (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1997 ( S.I. No. 430 of 1997 )), hereby make the following Rules:

1. These Rules may be cited as the Vocational Education Committees (Allowances to Members) (Amendment) Rules, 1998.

2. (1) These Rules (other than Rule 4(2)) shall be deemed to have come into operation on the 1st day of January, 1994.

(2) Rule 4(2) of these Rules shall be deemed to have come into operation on the 1st day of January, 1996.

3. In these Rules "the Rules of 1990" means the Vocational Education Committees (Allowances to Members) (Amendment) Rules, 1990 ( S.I. No. 234 of 1990 ).

4. (1) The Vocational Education Committees (Allowances to Members) Rules, 1963 ( S.I. No. 114 of 1963 ), are hereby amended by--

(a) the substitution in Rule 3(a) for "£13.50" (inserted by the Rules of 1990) of "£19.09",

(b) the substitution in Rule 3(b) for "£18.00" (inserted by the Rules of 1990) of "£19.09", and

(c) the substitution in Rule 4 for "£20.00" (inserted by the Rules of 1990) of "£22.00".

(2) The Vocational Education Committees (Allowances to Members) Rules, 1963, are hereby amended by--

(a) the substitution in Rule 3(a) for "£19.09" (inserted by paragraph (1)(a) of this Rule) of "£19.81",

(b) the substitution in Rule 3(b) for "£19.09" (inserted by paragraph (1)(b) of this Rule) of "£19.81", and

(c) the substitution in Rule 4 for "£22.00" (inserted by paragraph (1)(c) of this Rule) of "£23.00".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These rules govern the payment of allowances to members of county vocational education committees and of approved sub-committees of such county committees in respect of their attendance at meetings of the county committees or approved sub-committees.
