I, Joe Walsh, Minister for Agriculture and Food, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3, 12, 13 and 27 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966) , as adapted by the Agriculture, Food and Forestry (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1997 ( S.I. No. 302 of 1997 ) hereby order as follows: |

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Diseases of Animals (Notification of Infectious Diseases) Order, 1992 (Amendment) Order, 1999. |
||||||||
(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 31st day of January, 1999. |
||||||||
(3) The Diseases of Animals (Notification of Infectious Diseases) Orders, 1992 to 1998, and this Order, may be cited together as the Diseases of Animals (Notification of Infectious Diseases) Orders, 1992 to 1999. |
||||||||
2. The Diseases of Animals (Notification of Infectious Diseases) Order, 1992, as amended, is hereby amended by: |
||||||||
-- the insertion into the list of diseases in Article 2 of the following: |
||||||||
“Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (other than scrapie and bovine spongiform encephalopathy).” |
||||||||
-- the replacement of the first sentence of Article 5 with the following: |
||||||||
“In respect of caseous lymphadenitis and transmissible spongiform encephalopathies, other than bovine spongiform encephalopathy, the following shall apply:” |

This Order makes transmissible spongiform enechalopathies, other than scrapie and bovine spongiform encephalopathy, notifiable (the latter two diseases are already notifiable) and extends movement controls to all transmissible spongiform encephalopathies. |
