I, JOE WALSH, Minister for Agriculture and Food, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 ( No. 27 of 1972 ), for the purpose of giving effect to Council Directive No. 72/160/EEC of 17 April 1972,1 hereby make the following regulations: |

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Retirement of Farmers) (Amendment) Regulations, 1999. |
||||||||
(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of May, 1999. |
||||||||
2 In these Regulations “the Regulations of 1998” means the European Communities (Retirement of Farmers) (Amendment) Regulations, 1998 ( S.I. No. 239 of 1998 ). |

3. The Farmers' Retirement Scheme, 1974 set out in the Schedule to the European Communities (Retirement of Farmers) Regulations ( S.I. No. 116 of 1974 ), is hereby amended by the substitution-- |
||||||||
(a) in Article 7, for “£3791” (inserted by the Regulations of 1998) of “£3882” and for “£2528” (inserted by the Regulations of 1998) of “£2589”, and |
||||||||
(b) in Article 8, for “£2528” (inserted by the Regulations of 1998) of “£2589”. |

||||||||
Article 13 of the Farmers' Retirement Scheme provides that the annuity payable under the Scheme may be increased from time to time to take account of any increase in the Consumer Price Index. These Regulations increase the amount of the annuity from £3791 to £3882 for a married person whose spouse is alive and from £2528 to £2589 for a single person, widow or widower with effect from 1 May 1999. |
