S.I. No. 468/2020 - Building Control (Prescribed Qualifications) Regulations 2020


Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 30th October, 2020.

I, DARRAGH O’ BRIEN, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 64 of the Building Control Act 2007 (No. 21 of 2007) hereby make the following regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Building Control (Prescribed Qualifications) Regulations 2020.

2. The qualifications specified in the Schedule to these Regulations are prescribed for the purposes of section 29(2)(a)(iii) of the Building Control Act 2007 (No. 21 of 2007).

SCHEDULE

PRESCRIBED QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are prescribed pursuant to section 29(2)(a)(iii) of the Building Control Act 2007 :

(i) Bachelor of Science (BSc (Honours) in Quantity Surveying) awarded by Cork Institute of Technology.

(ii) Bachelor of Science (BSc (Honours) Construction Economics and Quantity Surveying awarded by Galway – Mayo Institute of Technology.

(iii) Bachelor of Science (BSc (Honours) in Quantity Surveying) awarded by Letterkenny Institute of Technology

(iv) Bachelor of Science (BSc (Honours) in Quantity Surveying) awarded by Institute of Technology, Sligo

(v) Bachelor of Science (BSc (Honours) in Quantity Surveying) awarded by Waterford Institute of Technology.

(vi) Bachelor of Science (BSc (Honours) in Quantity Surveying) awarded by Institute of Technology, Carlow

(vii) Master of Science (MSc in Quantity Surveying) awarded by Technological University Dublin

(viii) Master of Science (MSc in Quantity Surveying) awarded by Limerick Institute of Technology

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

Section 29 of the Building Control Act 2007 provides that the Minister may prescribe additional qualifications and educational bodies to those recognised in the Act as being suitable for the purpose of the registration of certain persons on the register of Quantity Surveyors established under Part 4 of the Building Control Act 2007 .

The qualifications as referred to in the Schedule, are newly prescribed under these Regulations.
