Redemption periods, etc. 16.(1) Subject to the provisions of sub-sections (2) and (3) the redemption period shall be (a)for a pledge pawned for a sum less than three pounds, six months; (b)for a pledge pawned for a sum of three pounds or more, but less than five pounds, nine months; and (c)for a pledge pawned for a sum of five pounds or more, one year. (2) The redemption period for any pledge made up wholly or partly of gold, silver or other precious metal, or of any precious or semi-precious stone or stones, shall be one year. (3) To each of the redemption periods provided by this section there shall be added seven days (which may be known as days of grace) during which a pledge may not lawfully be sold or disposed of by a pawnbroker; and the days of grace shall be deemed to be part of each redemption period.
