SUMMARY JURISDICTION ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1953 - LONG TITLE

An Act to provide for the making of summary jurisdiction rules; to
extend the jurisdiction and powers of, and to amend the law
relating to, courts of summary jurisdiction and justices out of
petty sessions; and otherwise to make provision with respect to
summary procedure and offences.

Extension of summary jurisdiction in respect of malicious damage.

SUMMARY JURISDICTION ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1953 - SECT 26

26.(1) If any person wilfully or maliciously commits any damage to
any real or personal property whatsoever, either of a public or
private nature, and the amount of the damage does not, in the
opinion of the court, [exceed #100, he shall be liable on summary
conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or
to a fine not exceeding #100.]

28.(1) A person convicted by a court of summary jurisdiction of an
offence under

SUMMARY JURISDICTION ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1953 - SECT 46
Civil remedy for common assault and battery not to be barred under
the Offences against the Person Act, 1861.

46.(1) The conviction or punishment of a person upon complaint of
an offence under sections forty-two or forty-three of the Offences
against the Person Act, 1861, or the dismissal of any such
complaint shall not operate to bar any civil proceedings which might
otherwise be brought against him.

Disposal of property in possession of Royal Ulster Constabulary.

47. An order may be made under section one of the Police Property
Act, 1897, for the disposal of property in the possession of the
Royal Ulster Constabulary although no person has been charged with
an offence in connection with it.

Short title, construction citation.

52.(1) This Act may be cited as the Summary Jurisdiction Act
(Northern Ireland), 1953.

(2) This Act shall be construed as one with, and included among
the Acts which may be cited together as, the Summary Jurisdiction
Acts (Northern Ireland).
