SOCIAL SECURITY
The Social Security Fraud (2001 Act) (Commencement No. 2) Order (Northern Ireland) 2002
The Department for Social Development, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 17(1) of the Social Security Fraud Act (Northern Ireland) 2001[1] and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
Citation and interpretation
1.
- (1) This Order may be cited as the Social Security Fraud (2001 Act) (Commencement No. 2) Order (Northern Ireland) 2002.
(2) In this Order "the Act" means the Social Security Fraud Act (Northern Ireland) 2001.
Appointed days
2.
- (1) The day appointed for the coming into operation of sections 6 to 10 and 12 of the Act (loss or benefit for commission of benefit offences) -
(a) for the purpose only of authorising the making of regulations, is 6th March 2002; and
(b) for all other purposes, is 1st April 2002.
(2) The day appointed for the coming into operation of section 11 of the Act (consequential amendments), is 1st April 2002.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order.)
This Order provides for the coming into operation of sections 6 to 12 of the Social Security Fraud Act (Northern Ireland) 2001 (which provides for loss of benefit where benefit offences are committed). Sections 6 to 10 and 12 are commenced for the purpose of authorising the making of regulations on 6th March 2002 and for all other purposes on 1st April 2002. Section 11, which makes consequential changes, is commenced on 1st April 2002.
This Order does not impose a charge on business.
NOTE AS TO EARLIER COMMENCEMENT ORDERS
(This note is not part of the Order.)
Section 15 of the Social Security Fraud Act (Northern Ireland) 2001 was brought into operation for the purpose only of authorising the making of regulations on 3rd December 2001 and for all other purposes on 7th January 2002 by the Social Security Fraud (2001 Act) (Commencement No. 1) Order (Northern Ireland) 2001 (S.R. 2001 No. 416 (C. 20)).
