The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 7, 10, 22 and 31 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971[1], as adapted by section 38 of that Act and now vested in it[2].
In accordance with section 31(3) of that Act it has consulted with the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs.
Citation and commencement
1.
These Regulations may be cited as the Misuse of Drugs (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 and shall come into operation on 8th March 2006.
Interpretation
2.
The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954[3] shall apply to these regulations as it applies to an act of the Assembly.
Amendment of the Misuse of Drugs Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2002

In Part I of Schedule 4 to the Misuse of Drugs Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2002[4] (which specifies some of the controlled drugs that are subject to the requirements of regulations 22, 23, 26 and 27 and for which provision is made by certain other regulations), in paragraph 1 after "4-Hydroxy-n-butyric acid" insert "Ketamine"[5].

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations insert Ketamine into Part 1 of Schedule 4 to the Misuse of Drugs Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2002 ("the 2002 Regulations"), which specifies some of the controlled drugs that are subject to the record keeping, information and destruction requirements set out in regulations 22, 23, 26 and 27 of the 2002 Regulations and for which provision is made by certain other regulations of the 2002 Regulations.
