The Department for Employment and Learning, in exercise of the powers conferred by Articles 4(8) and 14(4) of the Higher Education (Northern Ireland) Order 2005[1] makes the following Regulations.
Citation and commencement
1.
These Regulations may be cited as the Student Fees (Amounts) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2007 and shall come into operation on 1st September 2008.
Increases to the prescribed basic and higher amounts
2.
The Student Fees (Amounts) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005[2] shall be amended as provided by regulations 3 and 4.

—(1) Regulation 3 shall be amended as provided by paragraphs (2) and (3).
(2) For "£1,225" there shall be substituted "£1,255".
(3) For "£3,070" there shall be substituted "£3,145".
4.
—(1) Regulation 4 shall be amended as provided by paragraphs (2) and (3).
(2) For "£610" there shall be substituted "£625".
(3) For "£1,535" there shall be substituted "£1,570".
Revocation of the Student Fees (Amounts) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006

The Student Fees (Amounts) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006[3] are revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations amend the Student Fees (Amounts) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005 ("the 2005 Regulations") by increasing the basic and higher amounts prescribed in the 2005 Regulations. The amendments come into operation on 1st September 2008.
The 2005 Regulations prescribe the basic and higher amounts which higher education institutions in Northern Ireland may charge by way of tuition fees. Regulation 3 of the 2005 Regulations sets out the basic and higher amounts which ordinarily apply. Regulation 4 sets out the lower basic and higher amounts which apply in respect of an academic year of specified courses.
The 2005 Regulations were amended by the Student Fees (Amounts) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 ("the 2006 Regulations"), which came into operation on 1st September 2007. These Regulations revoke the 2006 Regulations.
