The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 1(3) of the Police and Criminal Evidence (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) Order 2007(1):
1. This Order may be cited as the Police and Criminal Evidence (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 (Commencement) Order 2009.
2. The following provisions of the Police and Criminal Evidence (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 shall come into operation on 1st November 2009–
(a) Article 18 (arrested juveniles);
(b) Article 25(2) (definitions).

This Order brings into operation from 1st November 2009 Articles 18 and 25(2) of the Police and Criminal Evidence (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 which amend Articles 38 and 53 of the Police and Criminal Evidence (Northern Ireland) Order 1989(2) to change the definition of an arrested juvenile under PACE from anyone under the age of 17 years to anyone under the age of 18 years.
