The Foot and Mouth Disease (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2014

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development(1), in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972(2), makes the following Regulations.

Citation and Commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as The Foot and Mouth Disease (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2014 and shall come into operation on 1st July 2014.

Interpretation

2.  The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954(3) shall apply to these Regulations as it applies to an Act of the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Amendment

3.  The Foot and Mouth Disease Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006(4) are amended as follows-

(a)In regulation 15(1), for words "a contemporary control zone" substitute "a temporary control zone";

(b)In regulation 30(4)-

(i)For sub-paragraph (b), substitute "any protection zone extends from that border such that its boundary is at least three kilometres from the infected premises"; and

(ii)For sub-paragraph (c), substitute "any surveillance zone extends from that border such that its boundary is at least ten kilometres from the infected premises".

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Foot and Mouth Disease Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 (S.R. 2006 No. 42). The Regulations amend regulations 15(1) and 30(4)(b) and (c) to correct some technical errors.

The Department of Agriculture for Northern Ireland was renamed the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development by Article 3(4) of the Departments (Northern Ireland) Order 1999 (S.I. 1999/283 (N.I. 1))
