The Secretary of State for the Environment, as respects England, and the Secretary of State for Wales, as respects Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by section 74 of the Rent Act 1977 and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, and after consultation with the Council on Tribunals, hereby make the following regulations:-
1. These regulations may be cited as the Rent Assessment Committees (England and Wales) (Rent Tribunal) (Amendment) Regulations 1981 and shall come into operation on 1st January 1982.
2.-(1) The Rent Assessment Committees (England and Wales) (Rent Tribunal) Regulations 1980 are amended as set out in paragraph (2) below as respects references to a rent tribunal made after the coming into operation of these regulations.
(2) In regulation 4 for the words "fourteen days" substitute the words "7 days" and in regulation 5(1) for the words "fourteen clear days" substitute the words "7 clear days".

These regulations amend the Rent Assessment Committees (England and Wales) (Rent Tribunal) Regulations 1980 in respect of references made to a rent tribunal after 1st January 1982.
The amendments are to reduce from 14 days to 7 days the minimum time within which either representations in writing or a request to be heard may be made to the tribunal, and reduce from 14 clear days to 7 clear days the minimum period of notice the tribunal must give of the time and place of a hearing if one is requested.
