The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(1), and of all other enabling powers, and after consultation with the Secretary of State for the Home Department, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the A4 Trunk Road (Great West Road, Hounslow) (Prescribed Routes) Order 1987 and shall come into force on 7th August 1987.
2. In this Order-
"Great West Road" means that length of the London to Bristol Trunk Road (A4) in the London Borough of Hounslow known as Great West Road;
"central reservation" means that part of Great West Road which separates the two carriageways of Great West Road for the safety and guidance of vehicles using that road;
"the U-turn facility" means that part of Great West Road which is separated from the southern side of its westbound carriageway by an island site and which extends from a point 125 metres southwest of the junction of Great West Road with Boston Manor Road to a point 195 metres southwest of that point; and
"the gap in the central reservation" means the gap in the central reservation which lies opposite the Trico-Foliberth factory at a point 140 metres southwest of the junction of Great West Road with Boston Manor Road.
3. Save as provided in articles 6 and 7 below, no person shall cause or permit any vehicle proceeding in the westbound carriageway of Great West Road to make a right turn so as to enter and proceed through the gap in the central reservation.
4. Save as provided in article 7 below, every person causing any vehicle proceeding in the eastbound carriageway of Great West Road to enter the gap in the central reservation, for the purpose of making a U-turn so as to proceed in the opposite direction to that in which it was proceeding, shall cause that vehicle to proceed through the said gap, cross the westbound carriageway of Great West Road and then enter the U-turn facility.
5. Save as provided in article 7 below, no person shall cause or permit any vehicle to proceed in the U-turn facility in any direction other than from east to west.
6. Nothing in article 3 above shall apply to any vehicle being used for fire brigade, police or ambulance purposes.
7. Nothing in this Order shall apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or of a traffic warden.
