The Secretary of State makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980(1) and of all other enabling powers:
1. The lengths of the trunk roads described in Schedules 1 and 2 to this Order and shown by broad striped hatching on the deposited plan shall cease to be trunk roads and shall be classified as principal roads as from the date on which this Order comes into force.
2. In this Order-
3. This Order shall come into force on 1st April 1987 and may be cited as The London-Fishguard Trunk Road (A48) (County of South Glamorgan) and The Cardiff-Glan Conwy Trunk Road (A470) (County of South Glamorgan) Detrunking Order 1987.

The length of the London-Fishguard Trunk Road (A48) ceasing to be a trunk road is in the County of South Glamorgan and is the length from the Mid Glamorgan County boundary adjacent to Brocastle Farm, near Cowbridge and proceeding in a general easterly and then north-easterly direction for about 40 kilometres to the Gwent County boundary at St Mellons (the length being marked "A" to "B" on site plan number 1 of the deposited plan), including the slip roads linking the main carriageways of the trunk road with adjoining roads and numbered 1, 2, 3 and 4; 5, 6, 7 and 8; 9, 10, 11 and 12 on site plan number 1 of the deposited plan.
The length of the Cardiff-Glan Conwy Trunk Road (A470) ceasing to be a trunk road is the length from its commencement at the Gabalfa Interchange at Cardiff and proceeding in a general north-westerly direction for about 5.65 kilometres to the centre point of the bridge over Iron Bridge Road, north of the Coryton Interchange, Cardiff (the length being marked "A" to "B" on site plan number 2 of the deposited plan), including the slip roads linking the main carriageway of the trunk road with adjoining roads and numbered 1, 2, 3 and 4 on site plan number 2 of the deposited plan.
