The Secretary of State for the Environment as respects England, and the Secretary of State for Wales as respects Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sections 245(4)(a) and 259(4)(a) of the Housing Act 1985(1), and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, and with the consent of the Treasury, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Housing (Contributions Towards Expenditure for Area Improvement) Order 1988 and shall come into force on 1st September 1988.
2. In sections 245(3) and 259(3) of the Housing Act 1985 (calculation of contributions towards expenditure of local housing authorities in respect of environmental works relating to housing action areas and of general improvement areas respectively) for the amount of £400 there shall be substituted the amount of £600.

This Order increases from £400 to £600 the amount for each dwelling which is to be taken into account in calculating the maximum expenditure of a local housing authority in respect of -
(a)environmental works relating to housing action areas, or
(b)general improvement areas,
towards which contributions may be paid by the Secretary of State.
