The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Instrument in exercise of powers conferred by section 106(3) of the Highways Act 1980(1) and now vested in him(2) and of all other enabling powers:

1. The County Council of the Royal County of Berkshire (Blakes Bridge Reconstruction Reading) Scheme 1987 is hereby confirmed without modifications.

2. The said Scheme as confirmed (hereinafter referred to as "the Scheme") is set out in the Schedule hereto and copies of the Scheme with its accompanying plans are deposited at the offices of the Department of Transport, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY and at the offices of the County Council of Berkshire at Shire Hall, Shinfield Park, Reading, Berkshire.

3. The Scheme will become operative on the date on which notice that it has been confirmed is first published in accordance with paragraph 1 of Schedule 2 to the Highways Act 1980.

4. This Instrument may be cited as the County Council of the Royal County of Berkshire (Blakes Bridge Reconstruction Reading) Scheme 1987 Confirmation Instrument 1988.

THE SCHEDULETHE COUNTY COUNCIL OF THE ROYAL COUNTY OF BERKSHIRE (BLAKES BRIDGE RECONSTRUCTION READING) SCHEME 1987

The County Council of the Royal County of Berkshire (hereinafter referred to as "the County Council") make this Scheme in exercise of their powers under section 106 of the Highways Act 1980 and of all other enabling powers-

1. The County Council are authorised to construct over the navigable waters of the River Kennet the bridge specified in the Schedule to this Scheme as part of the highway which they are proposing to improve between Vastern Road and Kings Road (A329) at Reading in the said County of Berkshire.

2. This Scheme may be cited as the County Council of the Royal County of Berkshire (Blakes Bridge Reconstruction Reading) Scheme 1987.

THE SCHEDULE TO THE SCHEMEPLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS OF THE BLAKES BRIDGE RECONSTRUCTION READING

The site and general design of the Bridge are shown on plan numbered 7009/41, annexed hereto.

Points of Commencement and Termination

From the point on the south bank of the River Kennet, Map reference 4722153.70 east, 173471.40 north.

To a point on the north bank of the River Kennet, Map reference 472151.30 east, 173490.20 north.

All on Ordnance Sheet SU 7273 SW.

Overall Dimensions

The bridge will be 21.6 metres wide overall and will carry dual carriageways of 7.3 metres width each with a central reserve of 2.0 metres and footings of 2.5 metres width on east and west sides. It will have an overall length of 20.0 metres.

Main Navigation Span

Single span of 18.85 metres over the River Kennet.

Headway

2.33 metres minimum.

Waterway

Minimum square waterway of 16 metres.

Given under the Common Seal of the County Council the 30th day of June 1987.
