The Secretary of State for Health in exercise of the powers conferred by section 5(1) and (2) of, and paragraphs 1 and 2 of Schedule 3 to, the Public Expenditure and Receipts Act 1968(1) and now vested in him(2) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following order:

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages (Fees) (No. 2) Order 1988 and shall come into force on 1st April 1989.

Fees payable

2. The fees payable under each of the enactments specified in column 2 of the Schedule to this Order in respect of the matters specified in column 3 shall be the fees specified in relation thereto in column 4 and each of those enactments shall have effect accordingly.

Revocation of Order

3. The provisions of this Order shall have effect in place of the provisions of the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages (Fees) Order 1988(3) (under which the fees payable were as respectively set out in column 5 of the Schedule to this Order) and that Order is accordingly revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order specifies the fees payable for the year beginning 1st April 1989 under the Acts relating to the registration of births, deaths and marriages and associated matters.

The fees increased are those payable under section 5 of the Places of Worship Registration Act 1855, sections 27(6) and (7), 32(5), 41(6) and 51(1) and (2) of the Marriage Act 1949 and section 33(1) of the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1953, for a short certificate of birth obtained from the Registrar General; otherwise the fees payable from 1st April 1989 are the same as those payable before.
