NORTHERN IRELAND

27th June 1989
In exercise of the power conferred upon me by section 13(2) of the Elected Authorities (Northern Ireland) Act 1989(1), I hereby make the following Order:-
1. This Order may be cited as the Elected Authorities (Northern Ireland) Act 1989 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1989.
2. Section 1(2) of the Elected Authorities (Northern Ireland) Act 1989 shall come into force on 16th February 1990.
3. Schedule 1 to the Elected Authorities (Northern Ireland) Act 1989, except so far as that Schedule relates to sections 3 and 4 of the Representation of the People Act 1983 ("the 1983 Act")(2) shall:
(a)so far as it relates to sections 53, 201 and 202(1) of, and Schedule 2 to, the 1983 Act, come into force forthwith;
(b)so far as it relates to sections 49 and 50 of the 1983 Act, come into force on16th February 1990, and
(c)so far as it relates to the remaining provisions of the 1983 Act applied by that Schedule, come into force on 1st August 1989.

This Order brings section 1(2) of, and Schedule 1(except so far as it relates to sections 3 and 4 of the Representation of the People Act 1983) to, the Elected Authorities (Northern Ireland) Act 1989 into force on the various dates set out in articles 2 and 3. Schedule 1, so far as it relates to sections 3 and 4 of the Representation of the People Act 1983, came into force on Royal Assent.
