TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Whereas a draft of the following Order was laid before Parliament in accordance with section 149(4) of the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978(1) ("the 1978 Act") and approved by resolution of each House of Parliament:
Now, therefore, the Secretary of State in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 149(1)(a) and section 154(4) of the 1978 Act and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Redundancy Payments (Merchant Seamen Exclusion) Order 1973 (Revocation) Order 1990 and shall come into force on 30th September 1990.
2. The Redundancy Payments (Merchant Seamen Exclusion) Order 1973(2) is hereby revoked.

This Order revokes the Redundancy Payments (Merchant Seamen Exclusion) Order 1973 ("the 1973 Order") which excluded certain employments as a merchant seaman from the redundancy payments provisions of the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978. The effect of the revocation is to apply those provisions to merchant seamen to whom the 1973 Order applied.
