The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 10(6) of the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963(1) and paragraph 3 of Schedule 4 to that Act, having regard to the definition of "prescribed" in section 55(1) of that Act, hereby makes the following Regulations:
1.-(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Licensed Betting Offices (Amendment) Regulations 1997 and shall come into force 28 days after the day on which they are made.
(2) These Regulations do not extend to Scotland.
2. In regulation 4(b) of the Licensed Betting Offices Regulations 1986(2) -
(a)the words "otherwise than in a material form" shall be inserted after the word "office"; and
(b)for the words "(ii) and (iii)" there shall be substituted "and (ii)".

These Regulations amend the Licensed Betting Offices Regulations 1986 as a consequence of the making of the Deregulation (Betting and Bingo Advertising etc.) Order 1997. That Order inter alia permits the advertising of licensed betting offices through advertisements in a material form.
Regulation 1 provides for citation, commencement and extent.
Regulation 2 amends regulation 4 of the 1986 Regulations-
so as to make it clear that the restrictions set out in that regulation extend to advertisements published otherwise than in a material form;
and to remove a reference to section 10(6)(b)(iii) of the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963, which is repealed by the Order.
