The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 166 of the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, having consulted each local authority in whose area all or part of any urban development area in England is situated, hereby makes the following Order-
1. This Order may be cited as the Urban Development Corporations in England (Dissolution) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 3rd April 1998.
2. The following urban development corporations shall be dissolved on 1st July 1998-
(a)the Birmingham Heartlands Development Corporation;
(b)the Black Country Development Corporation;
(c)the London Docklands Development Corporation;
(d)the Merseyside Development Corporation;
(e)the Plymouth Development Corporation;
(f)the Teesside Development Corporation;
(g)the Trafford Park Development Corporation; and
(h)the Tyne and Wear Development Corporation.

By virtue of section 166(3) of the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980, on the coming into force of this Order the eight urban development corporations remaining in England will cease to act except for the purpose of preparing their final accounts and reports and winding up their affairs. The corporations will be dissolved on 1st July 1998.
