Whereas a draft of this Order has, in accordance with section 120(5) of the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990(1), been laid before and approved by each House of Parliament:
Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in pursuance of a recommendation made by the Lord Chancellor and in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 29(2) of the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:
1. This Order may be cited as the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents Order 1999 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.
2. The Chartered Institute of Patent Agents is hereby designated as an authorised body for the purposes of sections 27 and 28 of the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990.

This Order designates the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents as an authorised body for the purposes of sections 27 and 28 of the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990, under which authorised bodies may grant, respectively, rights of audience and rights to conduct litigation.
