1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Greater London Authority Act 1999 (Commencement No. 5 and Appointment of Reconstitution Day) Order 2000.

(2) In this Order, "the 1999 Act" means the Greater London Authority Act 1999 and "the Fire etc Authority" and "the reconstitution day" have the same meanings as in section 328 of the 1999 Act.

Appointment of the reconstitution day

2. 3rd July 2000 is hereby appointed the reconstitution day of the Fire etc Authority.

Commencement on 1st May 2000

3. The following provisions of the 1999 Act shall come into force on 1st May 2000 for the purpose only of nominating or appointing the first members of the Fire etc Authority:

(a)section 328; and

(b)Schedule 28.

Commencement on 3rd July 2000

4. The following provisions of the 1999 Act shall come into force on 3rd July 2000:

(a)section 328, insofar as it is not already in force;

(b)section 329;

(c)section 330;

(d)section 331;

(e)section 332;

(f)section 333;

(g)Schedule 28, insofar as it is not already in force;

(h)Schedule 29; and

(i)Part VIII of Schedule 34.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force certain provisions of the Greater London Authority Act 1999 and appoints the day for the reconstitution of the London Fire and Civil Defence Authority as the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority.

Article 2 appoints 3rd July 2000 as the reconstitution day.

Article 4 brings into force provisions of the Act relating to the constitution, membership and proceedings of the reconstituted Authority on 3rd July 2000. Article 3 brings into force certain provisions of the Act on 1st May 2000 for the purpose only of nominating or appointing the first members of the reconstituted Authority.

Article 4 also brings into force various consequential amendments and repeals.
