TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The National Minimum Wage (Increase in Development Rate for Young Workers) Regulations 2000

Made

24th May 2000

Coming into force

1st June 2000

Whereas a draft of the following Regulations was laid before Parliament in accordance with section 51(5) of the National Minimum Wage Act 1998(1) and approved by resolution of each House of Parliament:

Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 3 and 51(1) of the National Minimum Wage Act 1998 hereby makes the following Regulations:-

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the National Minimum Wage (Increase in Development Rate for Young Workers) Regulations 2000 and shall come into force on 1st June 2000.

Amendments

2. In regulation 13(1) of the National Minimum Wage Regulations 1999(2), for "£3.00" there is substituted "£3.20".

Transitional provision

3. The increase in hourly rate effected by regulation 2 does not apply in relation to any pay reference period (within the meaning assigned to that expression by regulation 10 of the National Minimum Wage Regulations 1999) beginning before 1st June 2000.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations, which come into force on 1st June 2000, increase the minimum hourly rate of the national minimum wage applying to young workers who have reached 18 but are not yet 22 from £3.00 to £3.20.

The Regulations contain a transitional provision having the effect that the increased rate applies in relation to all pay reference periods beginning on or after 1st June 2000.
