The Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 (Commencement No. 3) Order 2000

In exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 68(3) of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999(1), the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

1. This Order may be cited as the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 (Commencement No. 3) Order 2000.

2. The following provisions of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 shall come into force on 26th June 2000:

(a)Part I (referrals to youth offender panels) in so far as it is not already in force and Schedule 1;

(b)paragraphs 5 to 9, 11, 20, 23, and 25 to 30 of Schedule 4, and section 67(1) in so far as it refers to them; and

(c)paragraphs 1 and 2 of Schedule 7.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force Part I of, and Schedule 1 to, the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999. These provisions enable, and in some circumstances require, courts to refer young offenders who have been convicted of certain offences to youth offender panels. It also commences a number of minor and consequential amendments and transitional provisions relating to such panels. All of the above provisions come into force on 26th June 2000.
