PUBLIC PASSENGER TRANSPORT, ENGLAND

The Bus Service Operators Grant (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2003

  Made 6th April 2003 
  Laid before Parliament 8th April 2003 
  Coming into force 1st May 2003 

The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 154(5) and 160(1) of the Transport Act 2000[1], hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation, commencement and application
     1.  - (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Bus Service Operators Grant (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2003 and shall come into force on 1st May 2003.

    (2) These Regulations apply to England only.

Interpretation
    
2. In these Regulations "the 2002 Regulations" means the Bus Service Operators Grant (England) Regulations 2002[2].

Amendment of the 2002 Regulations: interpretation
     3.  - (1) There shall be inserted into regulation 2 of the 2002 Regulations (interpretation) -

4.  - (1) Regulation 3 of the 2002 Regulations (eligibility for grant) is amended as follows.

    (2) In paragraph (1), at the end, there is inserted

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)


These Regulations extend the categories of eligible bus services for the purposes of section 154 of the Transport Act 2000 prescribed by the Bus Service Operators Grant (England) Regulations 2002 to include certain coach services over routes of 15 miles or more which operate in accordance with a fixed timetable, which are for use by the general public, and which provide half-fare concessions (on terms further set out in these Regulations) to persons of 60 years or older and to persons to whom a current statutory travel concession permit has been issued (or could have been, but for an alternative agreement with a travel concession authority under section 145(6) of the Transport Act 2000).
