NATIONAL LOTTERY

The Parks for People (England) Joint Scheme (Authorisation) Order 2005

  Made 26th November 2005 
  Laid before Parliament 29th November 2005 
  Coming into force 1st January 2006 

The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by paragraphs 2(1) and 3 of Schedule 3A to the National Lottery etc. Act 1993[1].

     In accordance with paragraph 2(4) of Schedule 3A to that Act she has received an application made for the purpose by the bodies proposing to participate in the joint scheme, namely the New Opportunities Fund and the National Heritage Memorial Fund.

Citation, commencement and interpretation
     1. —(1) This Order may be cited as the Parks for People (England) Joint Scheme (Authorisation) Order 2005 and shall come into force on 1st January 2006.

    (2) In this Order—

Authorisation of the joint scheme
     2. —(1) The Secretary of State hereby authorises the Parks for People (England) joint scheme which is contained in the agreement entered into on 31st October 2005 between the New Opportunities Fund and the National Heritage Memorial Fund.

    (2) The Schedule to this Order (which, pursuant to paragraph 3 of Schedule 3A to the Act, contains a brief description of the nature and purposes of the joint scheme and other particulars of the scheme) shall have effect.

SCHEDULE
Article 2(2)


PARTICULARS OF THE PARKS FOR PEOPLE JOINT SCHEME


     1. The nature and purposes of the joint scheme are to make grants for expenditure on or connected with the national heritage, health, education or the environment which increase community usage of local parks so that parks meet local, social, economic and environmental needs, actively involve local people and ensure that the heritage is valued by the community.

     2. The joint scheme applies to England only.

     3. The maximum amount of money which may be distributed under section 25(1) of the Act in any year under the joint scheme is £99 million.

     4. The bodies participating in the joint scheme are the New Opportunities Fund and the National Heritage Memorial Fund.

     5. The money to be distributed under section 25(1) of the Act under the joint scheme is attributable to each of the participating bodies in the following proportions—

     6. The joint scheme will have effect for a period of 3 years ending on 31st December 2008.

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order authorises the Parks for People (England) joint scheme and the details of the scheme are set out in the Schedule. The scheme is contained in the agreement entered into on 31st October 2005 between the New Opportunities Fund (operating under the name of the Big Lottery Fund) and the National Heritage Memorial Fund (operating under the name of the Heritage Lottery Fund).
