1. This scheme may be cited as the M1 Motorway (Junctions 10 to 13 Improvement Connecting Roads) Scheme 2010 and shall come into force on 9 December 2010 .
2. In this Scheme:
(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway:

(i)"connecting road" means a special road along a route described in the Schedule to this Scheme;
(ii)"the Motorway" means the existing M1 Motorway;
(iii)"the plan" means the plan folio numbered HA 16/MP/027, containing a site plan, marked "The M1 Motorway (Junctions 10 to 13 Improvement Connecting Roads) Scheme 20..", signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at Document Deposit Service, Communities and Local Government, Floor 13 (IMD), Ashdown House, St Leonards on Sea, Hastings, East Sussex TN37 7GA; and
(iv)"the special roads" means the Motorway and each connecting road.
3. The Secretary of State is authorised to provide the special roads for the exclusive use of traffic of Classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 to the Highways Act 1980.
4. The centre line of each of the special roads is indicated by a heavy black line on the plan.
5. Each of the special roads shall become a trunk road on the date when this Scheme comes into force.

The routes of the slip roads are as follows:
(1) Junction with A5120 Harlington Road, north east of Hillside Farm at Toddington
A route to connect the northbound carriageway of the existing M1 Motorway with the north western side of the realigned A5120 Harlington Road the special road along this route being given the number 1 on the plan.
A route Road to connect the north western side of the realigned A5120 Harlington Road with the northbound carriageway of the existing M1 Motorway the special road along this route being given the number 2 on the plan.
A route to connect the north western side of the realigned A5120 Harlington Road with the southbound carriageway of the existing M1 Motorway the special road along this route being given the number 3 on the plan.
A route to connect the southbound carriageway of the existing M1 Motorway with the north western side of the realigned A5120 Harlington Road the special road along this route being given the number 4 on the plan.
(This note is not part of the Order)
The existing slip roads to/from the M1 Motorway to the A5120 at Toddington will be replaced with four new slip roads to/from the A5120 at Toddington by this Order. Redundant slip roads are to be stopped up by the associated Side Roads Order.
