(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations bring into force section 15 of the Armed Forces Act 2016 (c. 21) on the day after the day on which these Regulations are made.
Section 15 amends section 25 of the Social Security Act 1989 (c. 24), which makes provision for the establishment and functions of war pensions committees by regulations.
The amendments made by section 15 allow the Secretary of State to give war pensions committees additional functions relating to benefits payable under armed and reserve forces compensation schemes established under the Armed Forces (Pensions and Compensation) Act 2004 (c. 32) (such as the scheme provided for in the Armed Forces and Reserve Forces (Compensation Scheme) Order 2011 (S.I. 2011/517)). They also provide for the naming of war pensions committees.
