The Birmingham Commonwealth Games (Concurrent Exercise of Traffic Management Powers) Regulations 2022

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 27(2) of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games Act 2020( 1), makes the following Regulations.

In accordance with section 27(3) of that Act, the Secretary of State has obtained the consent of the local traffic authorities specified in the Schedule to these Regulations.

Citation, commencement and extent

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Birmingham Commonwealth Games (Concurrent Exercise of Traffic Management Powers) Regulations 2022 and come into force on 21st February 2022.

(2) These Regulations extend to England and Wales.

Specified local traffic authorities

2.  The local traffic authorities listed in the Schedule are specified for the purpose of section 27(2) of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games Act 2020.

SCHEDULE Specified local traffic authorities

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

Under section 25(1) (games transport plan) of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games Act 2020 (c. 10), the Secretary of State has directed the West Midlands Combined Authority (“ the Authority”) to prepare a Games transport plan which addresses transport matters relating to the Games. These Regulations enable the Authority to exercise the traffic management powers provided for under section 26 (temporary prohibition or restriction on roads) of that Act concurrently with local traffic authorities that have given consent, and are specified in the Schedule to these Regulations.

A full Impact Assessment has not been produced for this instrument no, or no significant, impact on the private, public or voluntary sectors is foreseen. An Explanatory Memorandum is available alongside this instrument on the UK legislation website,www.legislation.gov.uk.
