PHARMACY

The Pharmacy (Northern Ireland) Order 1976 (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2004

  Laid before Parliament under paragraph 7(3) of the Schedule to the Northern Ireland Act 2000
  Coming into operation 10th May 2004 

The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety[1] in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 56 of, and Schedule 4 to, the Health and Personal Social Services Act (Northern Ireland) 2001[2] and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation, commencement and interpretation
     1.  - (1) This Order may be cited as the Pharmacy (Northern Ireland) Order 1976 (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2004 and shall come into operation on 10th May 2004.

    (2) In this Order "the principal Order" means the Pharmacy (Northern Ireland) Order 1976[

Amendments to the principal Order
     2. In Article 5(1) of the principal Order (Regulations) -

     3. In Article 8 of the principal Order (Qualifications for registration), after paragraph (4) add the following paragraph -

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order.)


This Order amends Articles 5, 8, and 14 of the Pharmacy (Northern Ireland) Order 1976, to provide for annotation of the register of Pharmaceutical Chemists to indicate pharmacists who have particular qualifications, specialist areas of practice and status.

Article 5 of the principal Order is amended to enable the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland to make regulations with respect to the annotation of the register of pharmaceutical chemists to indicate certain qualifications, specialist areas of practice and status (Article 2(b)) and the charging of a fee for annotation (Article 2(a)).

Article 8 of the principal Order is amended so that a person is entitled to have an annotation recorded against his name on the register if he satisfies the requirements prescribed in regulations made by the Council, provides such proof as may be prescribed and pays the required fee (Article 3).

Article 14 of the principal Order is amended so that any certificate of registration issued to any person shall include any annotation recorded against that person's name (Article 4).
